GSO Challenge:  You Will Be Mine

The wind blew cold and hard through the streets of Dodge City; the blustery gusts howling between the buildings and kicking up the bluffs of snow.

Standing in the window, staring out at the dark street, Kitty wrapped her arms tightly around herself as a cold chill ran up her spine from the eerie sounds of the winter wind.

She jumped when she felt two arms slip around her.

“Sorry,” Matt murmured as he pulled her close.  “Didn’t mean to scare you.”

“S’okay,” answered Kitty as she began to settle into the warmth of his embrace.

“Why so jumpy?”

“I… I don’t know.”

“What’s wrong, Kitty?”  Matt asked with concern.

She sighed, leaned back against his chest and covered his hands with hers.  “I don’t know, Matt.”  She repeated.  “I just have a bad feeling…”

“About what?”  He queried.

“…something bad is going to happen…” Kitty whispered and another shudder passed through her body.  “Do you HAVE to go to Hays tomorrow?”

“Unfortunately I do, Kitty.”  Matt answered as he tightened his arms around her.

Matt had learned a long time ago to trust Kitty’s feelings and instincts.  He placed his fingers at the nape of her neck.  “I wish I could stay, Kitty.  I really do…”

“But you can’t,” she shook her head resignedly.

“It’s not that I don’t trust your instincts, Kitty…” the lawman told her to make certain that she knew he wasn’t discounting her feelings.

“I know, Matt.  It’s your job.”  Kitty said and turned in his arms.  She looked up into his blue eyes.  “Promise me that you’ll be careful.”

“I promise,” Matt told her and pulled her even closer.  “Now… do you really want to spend the rest of tonight talking about this?”

A slow, sensuous smile came to Kitty’s lips and she pressed closer to her man.  “No…”

“Good,” Matt grinned and walked her back towards the bed.

As they sank down onto the mattress, black gloved fingers drummed on the window ledge outside Kitty’s bedroom.

~MK~

“Damn!”

The mumbled curse reached his ears as he stood in the doorway of the office watching her.

“Damn!”  She swore again as she continued to look through her desk.  “Where could it have gone?”

Matt scratched his head while he looked at the mess she had created in her frantic search.  “Lose something?”

Kitty whirled around to find Matt standing in the doorway.  In spite of her frustration, she couldn’t help smiling at him.  “As a matter fact, I have,” she answered.  “I can’t find my pen.”

“Your pen?  All of this is because you can’t find your pen?”  He laughed.

“It’s not funny!  It’s my favourite pen,” she bit her bottom lip in consternation.

Matt stepped into the office, closed the door behind him, moved over to her, slipped his arms around her waist and drew her close.  “It’s just a pen, Kitty.”

A small pout formed on her sensual lips as she laid her hands on his chest.  “It’s the pen YOU gave me, Matt.  That makes it special.”

Rolling his eyes, he smiled affectionately down at her.  Even though she was a tough, no nonsense business woman, Kitty Russell could be such a… female some days, he thought.  He also knew that he wouldn’t change her one bit.  “I’m sure it will turn up.”

“I hope so.”

He felt he had the answer to pacify her.  “If it doesn’t, well then, I will just get you another set.”

Kitty shook her head.  “It wouldn’t be the same,” she sighed.  “You about ready to head out?”

The lawman took a deep breath as he felt her curvaceous body against his.  “Yeah.  Newly is getting the horses saddled while Festus readies Jenkins.”

Looking into his handsome face, she asked, “How long will you be gone?”

“Shouldn’t be any longer than three days,” he replied.  “I just have to bring him to the sheriff in Hays.”

One thing Kitty knew for sure was that Matt didn’t like hangings, and did not want to watch them either, but she wanted to make certain of her convictions.  “You won’t be staying for the hanging, will you?”

Matt shook his head.  “No.  You know how I hate those things… something about watching them die that way.  I’ll be back after I drop him off.”

Kitty tightened her arms around him in understanding.  “When you get back… maybe we can slip away…” she let the question go unfinished.

“Sounds good,” he said then sighed, dreading the thought of being away from her for any length of time.  “I should be going.”

“Yes.  The sooner you go, the sooner you get back,” Kitty told him then reached up to meet his mouth with hers.

They kissed slowly, both of them savouring the moment for as long as they could.  With deep reluctance Matt broke off the kiss.  No more words were spoken.  All that was said, was said with their eyes.

They shared another brief kiss.

An emptiness began to grab hold of her as she watched him go out the door.  “Hurry home, Cowboy.”

Turning around, he answered.  “I will.  See ya later, Kitty.”

“Good bye, Matt.”  She flashed him a smile then turned back to her office.  “Now… to find that damn pen.”

Matt chuckled to himself at her softly muttered declaration then left her office.

With a frustrated sigh, Kitty stepped into her room, closing the door behind her.  She leaned back against it and closed her eyes for a moment, grateful that the day was finally over.  All she wanted to do was take a bath and go to bed.

Filling the tub with warm water adorned with a perfumed soapy mixture, she eased into the tub, lying against it, and enjoying the feel and smell of the soapy substance.  Her eyes began to feel heavy and in no time she fell asleep.

A cool breeze rushed through the room, alarmingly awakening her.  Suddenly she began to feel the cool air hit her skin.  “Brrr, where is that coming from?  I know I closed the window.”

Kitty climbed out of the tub and dried herself off then slipped into her warm undergarment that had been laid on a rack near by.  She then pulled off the warm robe that had rested beside her underwear, and put it on.  Crossing her arms, she rubbed her hands up and down them.  “There, that’s better.”

Walking out into her bedroom Kitty noticed that her window was open.  “Damn, I know I closed it.  Well, I thought I did.”  Taking her hands, she pulled the window down.  She then sat down at her vanity and proceeded to take off her heavy make up.  After the deed was done Kitty went to brush her hair, but couldn’t find her brush.  “Where the hell did I put it?  Now this is really getting ridiculous.  First my pen, then the window, and now my mother’s brush, the only thing I have of hers.  Hope old age isn’t catching up with me.  Well it has to be somewhere; I’m just too exhausted to look for it,” she muttered.  Picking up another brush Kitty began to brush her a hundred strokes.  All had been accomplished in preparing for bed.

First she turned down the lamp light then crawled underneath the warm blankets and reached under her pillow, pulling out Matt’s soft blue cotton shirt.  Kitty buried her face in the material and inhaled; filling her lungs with her lover’s scent.  As she curled up under the covers, Kitty got the feeling she was being watched.  She was used to being stared at in her line of work, it went with the job; however, what she was feeling now made her very uncomfortable and uneasy.

A sudden chill ran up and down her spine; Kitty sat up.  She peered around in the dark, her eyes drawn to the frosty window.  She swallowed hard then gave a derisive laugh, shaking her head at herself as she lay back down.

“You’re being silly, Kitty Russell,” she told herself.  “You just miss Matt…”

But even as she told herself this, another chill swept over her.

Kitty closed her eyes and curled up into as small of a ball as she could and burrowed deeper under the blankets until she eventually fell into a restless sleep with her face buried in Matt’s shirt.

Agitated, Kitty plopped down into the chair beside Doc.

“What’s wrong with you?  Did you and Matt have an argument?”  The old physician asked.

Kitty smiled at her friend.  “No, we didn’t have any disagreements today.  I’m just frustrated.”

“Why?” asked the doctor.

Kitty shook her head then asked, “Doc, have you had things come up missing? I mean personal things?”

Adams thought it was a peculiar question but responded.  “Why?  Do you have things missing?”

Annoyed, she answered.  “Yes, first I couldn’t find the pen Matt gave me, I searched everywhere and then I couldn’t find my mother’s brush when I went to brush my hair… then I went for the cup that Claire gave me for some tea this morning but I couldn’t find it.  Even Sam helped me look everywhere for it.”  Kitty lowered her voice.  “Then this evening I went to my room to change for the night crowd, and went to hang up Matt’s shirt and it was not...”  Her voice lowered even more, “It was not under my pillow, it was gone.”

“His shirt?” queried Doc, who was fully aware of their relationship which was told to him a while back.

Kitty came closer to him and spoke softer, “Yeah, you know, the one I usually sleep in when he’s not here, except for when it’s really cold, then I sleep with it.”  Her cheeks exposed a slight blush when she spoke.

Doc nodded.  He knew about the shirt.  “You mean someone took it?”

Her face then frowned.  “Yes.  But what really bothers me is that the other night I found my window opened after coming out of the tub.  Doc, I know I closed that window.   I’m really getting scared with all these things happening to me.”

The physician was alarmed by his friend’s story.  “Kitty, something is definitely not right here.  It sounds like someone is stalking you.  You should get Festus or Newly to guard your room while Matt’s away.”

Kitty hesitated, in spite of her fear.  “I…”

“Matt would want you to.  You know that.”

She sighed and nodded.  “You’re right.  In fact, I’ll go over to the jail right now and talk to them about it.”

“Good idea,” Doc said as she pushed her chair back and stood.

“I’ll be right back,” Kitty said with a gentle pat to her old friend’s shoulder.

Doc nodded and watched her grab her shawl from behind the bar then leave the saloon.

Kitty stepped out onto the boardwalk and closed the door to the Marshal’s office behind her.  She breathed a small sigh of relief.  She’d talked to Festus and Newly, and they had agreed to watch over things at the Long Branch … especially at night… until Matt got back.

Satisfied with the arrangements they had made, Kitty pulled her shawl tightly around her then made her way along the boardwalk back to the Long Branch .

“Hi, Miss Kitty!”

The voice called to her just as she was about to step up onto the Long Branch ’s boardwalk.  She stopped and turned to look down the alley beside her saloon and smiled.

“Hello, Jake.”

The small auburn haired boy grinned and hurried over to her, stuffing a slingshot and a pair of black gloves into his back pocket.

“Afternoon, ma’am.  My sister told me that Mr. Marshal went out of town.”  Lowering his head with embarrassment, he spoke in an undertone.  “If I were the Marshal, I’d never leave someone as pretty as you.”

Kitty placed her hand on the youngster’s curly hair and ruffled it.  “Why thank you, Jake, that’s so sweet.  Maybe you should tell the Marshal that when you see him.”

The young fellow took the redhead by the hand.  “Miss Kitty, I got to go now.  If you need me, well, you know where I’m at.”  Releasing her hand, the lad skipped gingerly off down Front Street, occasionally looking back at her.

In the alley nearby a light flickered from a cigarette being lit, illuminating the menacing brown eyes that watched Kitty as she swiftly walked towards the Long Branch.

~MK~

“Miss Kitty, can I see you a moment?”

Kitty looked up from her beer at Sam’s call and nodded.  “Excuse me a moment,” she said to her companions as she pushed her chair back then stood and made her way to the bar.

“We’re getting low on whiskey,” Sam told her when she reached him.  “If you’ll watch the bar, I’ll go out back and get some.”

“I’ll go,” she said with a reassuring smile and grabbed the basket they used to carry the bottles then turned on her heel and headed for the back of the Long Branch .

She propped the door to the storage room open, then stepped inside and turned on the lamp.  She moved deeper into the room, to the shelf with the whiskey bottles, and pulled a few down, placing them in the basket she’d dropped at her feet.

Kitty jumped when the light in the room suddenly went out then gave a yelp of surprise when she heard the door slam shut behind her, plunging the room into total darkness.  As she tried to calm her racing heart, she turned and slowly began to inch her way toward the door, her hands stretched out in front of her.

“Mine.”

Kitty stopped at the raspy whisper.

In the pitch black of the room, she couldn’t tell just where it was coming from.  She swallowed hard and silently counted to ten before she began to shuffle forward again.

“Mine.  Mine.  Mine.  You will be mine.”

‘It’s not real,’ she thought.  ‘It’s just your imagination.’

“My Kitty…”

Kitty felt a cold wave of terror wash over her and began to move again, releasing a soft cry of relief when her hands came into contact with the door.  She reached for the handle and turned it.

Nothing happened.

“Damn!”

She tried again; turning and pulling on the handle to no avail.

“Help!!”  Kitty banged her balled fists on the door.  “SAM!  Sam, I’m locked in the back room!”

“Mine.  Mine.  Mine.”

“SAM!!  FESTUS!!”  She yelled out over and over as she continued to pound on the door.

“Here, Kitty Kitty…”

Kitty banged harder, and yelled louder.

Suddenly the door burst open, knocking her back onto the floor.

She looked up, blinking hard against the sudden brightness and clamped down hard on the scream that threatened to escape at the figure she saw standing in the doorway.

“Kitty?!”

“Oh, Matt!”  Kitty sobbed with relief as he knelt beside her and threw herself into his arms.  “Oh, Matt… I am SO happy to see you.”

Matt cradled her in his arms, murmuring soothing words until she’d calmed down.  “Can you stand?”  He asked, feeling pain shoot up his bad knee.  Kitty nodded and they slowly climbed to their feet.  He led her out of the supply room and down the hall to her office.  Once she was seated in her chair, he sat on the edge of the desk, her hand still clasped in his.  “What happened, Kitty?”

Still shaken, Kitty told him in a quiet voice.  “The lamp went out and the door shut… oh, Matt… it was SO dark.  Too dark.  I couldn’t see.  And there was this voice…”

“A voice?”

“Yes.”

“Male or female?”

“I… I… don’t… male.  It was male…” Kitty answered.

“What’d he say, Kitty?”

“He kept saying, ‘Mine, mine, mine… you will be mine…’” she repeated and shuddered.  Her eyes widened with fear and she rose and moved into his arms.  “Oh, Matt… I’m scared.  Why is this happening?”

“I don’t know, Kitty.  But I will find out,” Matt told her and buried his face in her hair.  He tightened his arms around her as he felt her shudder again.

The Long Branch was full to the brim with cowhands and other assorted patrons.  Brandi, Jake’s sister, noticed that Kitty seemed to be more distracted than usual.  “Miss Kitty, is everything all right?  I don’t mean to pry, but I can see something is bothering you.”

Looking at the pretty auburn haired woman, Kitty gave a partial smile.  “Sorry, Brandi, I just have a lot on my mind.  Would you mind taking over for me?  I have a dreadful headache.  I think I'll go upstairs and lie down for a bit.  If you see Matt, just let him know where I am.”

“Of course, Miss Kitty.  Oh, by the way, my brother is quite taken with you.  Do you know what that kid told me?”  The young woman paused for a moment while she laughed.   “He said that he’s going to marry you some day.  Yes, ma’am, the Marshal had better watch out.”

Kitty couldn’t help but smile.  “Your brother is something else,” she reached up to rub her temple.  “I’m going up now.  I’ll come down later.”

Brandi watched her boss as she climbed the Long Branch stairs and disappeared into her room.  A hand, covered with a black glove, rested on her shoulder.  As she turned to look into the very handsome face of a tall man, a flash of silver caught her eye.

“My name is Jeryd, can I buy you a drink, miss?”

Brandi looked the stranger over from head to toe.  He was tall.  Not as tall as the marshal, or as broad in build, but he was a good looking man.  Dark and handsome.  He was dressed all in black, the only hint of colour on him, the silver medallion pinned to his black Stetson.

“Can I buy you a drink?”  Jeryd repeated as he pushed his hat up on his head.

Brandi’s eyes were drawn to the silver medallion on his hat before she dropped her gaze to his and nodded.

“What’s your name?”

“Brandi.”

“Well, Brandi… I’ll pay you ten dollars for the evening.  Are you interested?”

The girl’s eyes widened.  “Sure, follow me.  I'll take you where we can have some privacy.  Bring the whiskey, we can finish it upstairs.”  The tall lanky man picked up the half filled bottle from the table beside him and followed the saloon girl.

~MK~

Kitty lay back on her bed, exhausted from the day’s activities with the cowhands.  Her eyelids fluttered and she could no longer keep the lids from closing.  As she was beginning to fall asleep, suddenly, hands grabbed her arms, restraining her from making any movement.  She desperately tried to push away the black gloves that held her down as a cloth was placed over her nose with what smelled like ether.  She fought but the mixture was too powerful and just as she collapsed into full unconsciousness, she glimpsed a flash of silver.

Moving her head side to side the saloon owner began to awaken.  Kitty went to sit up but her head began to spin, causing her to fall back down.  A jiggling sound came from the door knob.

Her heart began to pound.

The door flung open, she screamed.

“Kitty!  Kitty, it’s okay.  It’s me, Matt.”  The lawman sat on the side of the bed, lifting her into his arms. Kitty clung to him.

“Someone held me down… I couldn’t get up.”

“Did you get a good look at him?”

The redhead looked up at her lover and cried.  “All I could see was his black leather gloves and this flash of silver or… something.  Oh, Matt, it was awful.  HOLD ME.”

Matt tightened his arms around her.  While stroking her hair, he noticed a large portion of her red locks had been cut off.

Kitty felt a change in his body and pulled back to see the disturbed look on his face.

“Matt, what’s the matter?”  He held her closer.  “Your hair… it’s, it’s been cut off.”

Alarmed, she ran her hand where he had his.  “OH NO!!”  Tears streamed down her face.  “Who could be doing this and why?”

Matt frowned.  “I don’t know, honey.  I don’t know.”  He ran his hand over her shorn locks once again.  “But I am going to do my best to find out.  I promise you.”

~MK~

The next morning, bright and early, Matt opened Kitty’s door and stepped out into the hall.  He turned to meet his woman’s worried eyes.  He reached out to grasp her shoulder.  “Don’t worry, Kitty… I will send Festus and Newly over,” he squeezed her shoulder then reached up to run his fingers over the short hair on the side of her head.  “And together, we’ll figure this out.”

Kitty nodded.

Matt leaned in and brushed a soft kiss over her lips.  “I’ll be back soon.”

“All right, Matt.”  She gave him a shaky smile as she stepped back into her room, and closed the door; locking it as Matt had instructed her earlier.

Once he heard the lock, Matt gave a satisfied nod then made his way down the hall and out the back door.  He quickly went down the back stairs and stepped into the alley between the Long Branch and the General Store.

“Good morning, Mr. Marshal.”

Matt spun around to see Jake crawling out of a snow-covered crate.

“Jake!  What are you doing there?  Why aren’t you at home?”

“I was waiting for you, Marshal.”  The young boy answered as he came to stand in front of the lawman.  “You weren’t at your office, so I figured you was with Miss Kitty…” he kicked at the snow on the ground.  “An’ so I figured on waitin’ for ya.”

Matt just shook his head.

“Marshal, I need you to come with me to the stable,” Jake told him.

“Look, Jake, I’m a little busy right now…”

“It’s very important.  I found something in one of the stalls…”

“…Jake…”

The youngster continued as if Matt hadn’t spoken.  “…a cup that looked like I seen Miss Kitty drink out of.  I saw a silver brush…”

That got Matt’s attention.  “A cup like Miss Kitty’s and a silver brush?”

“Yeah.”

“What else?”

Jake listed a few other items then looked up at Matt with a confused look on his face.  “Why would a cowboy have things like that, Mr. Marshal?”

“Let’s go to the stable, Jake.” Matt reached down to grasp the kid’s shoulder, not answering his question.

With long strides, Matt hurried towards the stable, Jake running to keep up with him, and within moments they reached the building.

“Which stall?”  Matt asked as they stepped inside.

“The back one,” Jake moved further into the stable towards the stall in question.  “This one.”

The marshal followed Jake over to the horse-filled cubicle and looked inside.  “Where are the items, Jake?”

The boy crept into the stall, moving around the horse to where the saddle sat on a pile of hay.  He lifted the saddle and pulled out a leather sack.  “Here, Marshal.  In here.”

Matt moved to Jake’s side and knelt down.  He opened the sack and turned it over, dumping the items out onto the ground.  As he inspected each item, the scowl on his face deepened.  Everything Kitty had told him was missing was lying in the hay in front of him.  Everything that is, except the lock of his woman’s hair.

“Marshal, are you okay?”  Jake asked with a hint of nervousness in his voice, sensing the growing anger in the big man.

Once again, Matt did not answer the boy’s question as he shoved the items back into the bag and stood up.  “Moss!”

Moments later, the aged owner of the stable came hurrying out of the back room.  “Wha… oh, it’s you, Marshal.  What can I do for you?”

“Who owns this horse and rig, Moss?”

Moss scratched the back of his head as he answered, “Some fella named Jeryd.”

“When did he get into town?”

“Oh, about three or four days ago.  Been staying in here with his horse most nights.  Why?  Is there a problem?”

Matt’s hand tightened on the bag in his hand and he nodded.  “Yeah.  Look, do me a favour.  When this Jeryd fellow comes back, send someone to get me.  I’ll most likely be at the Long Branch .”

“Sure thing, Marshal.”  Moss replied.

“Thanks, Moss.”  Matt said then looked down at Jake.  “And you, Jake… I want you to stay here and help Moss.”

“But…” Jake began but at the look on Matt’s face, he stopped and nodded.  “Yes, sir.”

With that, Matt turned and left the stable.

~MK~

Matt strode into the Long Branch to find Kitty standing at the bar with Sam.  As he walked over to her, he was pleased to see that she’d been able to fix her hair into a style that hid the loss of some of her auburn tresses.  He placed the bag down in front of her.

“Found your things.”

Kitty’s eyes widened as she reached for the leather sack and opened it.  “Oh, Matt…” she gasped as she pulled out her belongings; her eyes filling with tears as she held her mother’s brush.  She looked up at him.  “Where did you find them?”

“In the stable”

“The stable?!”

Matt pushed his Stetson back on his head.  “Actually, young Jake is the one who found them,” he told her then looked between Sam and Kitty.  “Have either of you seen a cowboy in here named Jeryd?”

Kitty shook her head.  “I haven’t.”

Sam looked thoughtful.  “I think I have.  There was this tall fellow in here… he’s been hanging around here the last few days.”

“When was the last time you saw him?”

“Last night.  He went upstairs with Miss Brandi.”

“Which room is she in?”

“Room six, Matt.”  Kitty told him.

“Thanks,” Matt replied then his countenance softened as he met Kitty’s eyes.  “Remember your promise.  You won’t go anywhere alone.”

Kitty nodded.  “I promise, Matt.”

Matt glanced at Sam then turned and crossed the room to the stairs.  He quickly climbed the steps, made his way to room six and knocked on the door.

“Who is it?”  Came a feminine voice.

“Marshal Dillon.  Open the door, Brandi.”

“Just a moment, Marshal.”

Matt cocked his head to the side, listening carefully to the sounds coming from Brandi’s room.  When he heard the window creak, he drew his gun then reared back and kicked the door open.

“Hold it!”

The body partway through the window stopped.

“Now ease on back in this room.  Slowly,” the Marshal ordered.

“Marshal…” Brandi began as the man in the window came back into the room.

“Your name Jeryd?”  Matt asked the man, ignoring Brandi.

“Yes.”

“You’re under arrest,” the big lawman told him.

“On what charges?”  Jeryd asked.

“For theft and assault,” Matt told him as he stepped forward and pulled Jeryd’s gun from his gun belt.  “Let’s go.  Jail’s across the street.”

“Theft?!  Assault?!” Jeryd shook his head.  “Marshal… you’ve got the wrong man.  I’ve not stolen anything…”

Matt just gestured with his gun towards the door.  “I have evidence to the contrary.  Now move.”

With a scowl, Jeryd walked out of the room, Matt right behind him.

Standing at the bar, Kitty watched the two men come down the stairs.  Just as they reached the bottom, there was a flash of silver as the light hit the medallion on Jeryd’s hat and Kitty gasped.

Hearing this, Matt’s face hardened and he gave Jeryd a shove when he realized the man had stopped.  “Move.”

Matt glanced over at Kitty and gave her a small nod then ushered Jeryd out of the saloon.

She watched the two men go out the batwing doors as Jeryd protested.

“You can’t do this, I didn’t do it!  I tell you, I didn’t do it!”

Out of annoyance the lawman shoved him.  “Get moving.”

~MK~

Kitty stood staring out the window at the dark empty street while listening to the haunting sounds of the whistling winter wind.  The eerie sound made her think of what she had been through and she hated being reminded of it.

She jumped when she felt two arms slip around her.

“Sorry,” Matt murmured as he pulled her close.  “Didn’t mean to frighten you.”

“That’s all right,” answered Kitty as she nestled back into the warmth of his embrace.  “I was just thinking about everything that happened.  I don’t understand why that Jeryd did what he did.”

“I don’t either,” Matt replied as he nuzzled her temple with his cheek.  “The funny thing is; he maintains that he’s innocent.”

“Do you believe him?”

Matt shook his head.  “No.  The evidence is too overwhelming, and in spite of his protests, there is just something about Jeryd that I can’t put my finger on.”

“Brandi swears he was with her the entire night last night.  And she truly believes that he couldn’t have been the one to do all those things.”

The lawman shook his head.  “Well, she’s wrong. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have tried to escape through her window.”

“True.”

Another gust of wind blew against the saloon and Kitty shivered in Matt’s embrace.  She slowly turned in his arms and slid her hands up his chest to rest on his shoulders.

“I don’t know about you, Cowboy... but I could sure use some warming up.”

Matt grinned at the VERY obvious invitation in Kitty’s eyes and slid his hands down to the curve of her back and pulled her closer as he slowly began to walk them back towards the bed.  “Honey, in no time at all, I will have you more than warmed up.”

“Mmm... good...” Kitty murmured as the back of her legs hit the mattress.

Matt peeled her robe and nightgown away from her body then made quick work of his own clothes before laying her back onto the bed and covering her small body with his much larger one.

Matt rained soft kisses over her face, his lips lighting over her eyelids, her cheeks, finally stopping at her mouth to give her a deep loving kiss.  Just as the need for oxygen became a must, Matt pulled his mouth from hers and he trailed them over her chest.

As his lips continued their slow journey down Kitty’s stomach, stopping briefly at her belly button before proceeding lower, there was a sudden loud scraping at the window that shattered the haze of loving they were beginning to lose themselves in.

His head snapped up and whipped around; his eyes searching the window through the dim light of the room.

“Matt?”

He turned back to look down at her.  She was propped up on her elbows, her upper body flushed with arousal, but her eyes were filled with apprehension.

At that moment, another scrape sounded, followed by a loud clang as the shutter flew back against the window.

Relieved sighs echoed throughout the room as their eyes met again.  After several heartbeats, Kitty’s eyes grew dark again and she reached out for Matt.

“Come up here, Cowboy…”

“Don’t you want me to…” he glanced down then looked back up to meet her eyes.

Kitty smiled and shook her head.  “At the moment… I want to feel you all around me.”

Matt returned her smile and shifted so that he was stretched out over her.  He covered her mouth with his as Kitty wrapped her legs around his waist and joined their bodies.  He held on to her as he rolled over onto his back, careful to keep their naked bodies connected, and they quickly began to move their bodies in the ageless rhythm of making love.

Totally immersed in the heat of their passion, neither one noticed the doorknob rattle nor the door to Kitty’s room slowly open.  A black gloved hand, with a bracelet of auburn hair, reached inside a few inches and dropped a piece of paper onto the floor.

As the two lovers continued to lose themselves in each other, a soft raspy voice carried on the wind, echoing the words, written in big black letters on the paper on Kitty’s bedroom floor...

ONE DAY YOU WILL BE MINE

~The end.
